There's been a lot of traffic over in FB involving pieces fiction that were written for the VCU (Vanguard City Universe). A lot of work went in to that project, and I think that after awhile it truly became a Labour of love for many of us. Vanguard City began to work its way in to our hearts and minds. I don't think I'm the only One that could Literally visualize part of the city. Some of the work done by Dabo for his character Dutchy Grieves a.k.a. Shadow Boxer was so evocative it was scary.
The Best part for me was that it was ours, it was the result of our imaginations and hard work it meant more to us that any campaign setting you could buy off he shelf like Freedom City. In the beginning there was a strong push but some of the contributors to include Green Ronin's Freedom City in the background of Vanguard City, because let face it creating a campaign setting for Superheros out of whole cloth is a daunting task, and including bits an pieces from other sources is really tempting as it makes the task less monumental. Personally railed against it, actually reading back some of the post from the time, I was quite and somewhat childish and petulant about it (Sorry about that Folks). There was never a great deal of tie in with Freedom City, and as the Project grew thise ties became almost none existent. Instead other Locations began to appear, Steel City (PA), Saint Nicholas (LA), and with kind permission from Tim Knight of Hero Press, Knight City (Ma). The VCU began to grow organically into its own thing ... and we looked upon it and it was Good!!
And Now, I find myself trying to reinvent the wheel again, with a recreation of my original V&V campaign universe (I've been calling it the Vigilant Universe). as I re-read more and more of the VCU material I find myself wanting to return to my little long abandoned corner of the VCU; Saint Nicholas Louisiana. the only problem is compatibility with existing VCU material. Most, but not all (Virago II I'm Looking at you Girl) was written using Mutants and Masterminds 2nd Edition. A system I never really fell in love with, but PMikey did. Now despite my recent article about going back to V&V 2nd Edition I've decided to get over my fear / dislike of point buy system and give Villains & Vigilantes 3rd Edition: Mighty Protectors the love it deserves ( it's actually a really good System ). So that being said anything I'd write for Saint Nicolas would be using that system and I'm worried ( probably for no reason) about constant conversions between M&M 2nd Ed and MPRPG it just seems like a big constant headache, unless I can convince PMikey to give up his heathen ways and come back to the one true fait of V&V ( little chance of that happening )
No I'm Left with the conundrum, do I keep working on the Vigilant Universe (Montreal) or dive back in to Saint Nicolas.
Hmm...
Opinions Folks
