The Legendary Steve Ditko Died June 29, 2018 alone in New York
Sadly, too many of the comic industry's legendary creator's pass away before getting the recognition they so richly deserve form the general public. In this era of the "Marvel Blockbuster Movie" you would think that creators like Mr. Ditko would get more appreciation for what they've brought to Popular culture.
I obviously never met the man but I still feel I own him a debt of gratitude for all the enjoyment, and enlightenment he brought me personally over the years.
Farewell, and Good Travels Mr. Ditko

I've heard of the man before. Obviously.... I read comic books. But I don't know what he was known for. What were, if any, his claims to fame in the comic world?
Can anyone help?

Guess I should have read the article you posted first hmmm.
Spiderman and Dr. Strange. Not bad creatively speaking... not bad at all.
I know he wrote for a lot of other titles. I was just wondering what he was best known for.
Rest in Peace

Rest in Peace He was actually more of an artist than a writer and was an industry icon for decades. I was not always a fan of his style but there is no denying the impact he made on the industry helping to bring to life characters such as - Spider Man (who owes his a lot of distinctive visual style to Ditko's vision, no Lee's) - Doctor Strange (who was basically was created by Ditko and Stan Lee is on record at the time as saying he didn't expect much out of the character) - The Question (sole creator; the Question is the inspiration for Rorschach from The Watchmen) - Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) - Speedball - The Creeper (sole creator) - Hawk and Dove - Shade The Changing Man (sole creator) - Squirrel Girl Keep in mind that in addition to creating the main characters, the artist was also responsible for developing the look and feel of all the supporting characters as well, including most of the major villains that we associate with all of these characters. Not to mention being personally responsible for the trippy extra-dimensional realms frequented by Doctor Strange and his many enemies. Unfortunately he was also a bit of an antisocial recluse who would close himself off for days and not answer the door or answer his phone if he wanted to avoid someone. It's actually quite sad that he was dead several days before anyone even though to look for him.
