The Sovereign
The man known as the Soveriegn has ruled the Caribbean Island of San Cristobal with an iron fist for the last 10 years. He rose to power after serving as the personal enforcer for the former ruler Enrique Gonzales. At that time he was known simply as the Emissary. It is believed that he engineered the slow demise of his predecessor and arranged for himself to be named as the Gonzales’ successor. Shortly after assuming the office of President the Emissary declared the island to be a monarchy and took one his current name, he then and began a series of purges in order to ensure domestic tranquility for his people. For three days after the declaration the world held it breath waiting for the armed rebellion that everybody assumed would result from the self proclaimed Sovereign's actions, to everyone’s surprise nothing happened, life continued on as it had the week before.
It was at that point that the U.S. Government sent in a task force to liberate San Cristobal. The task force was under the command of the Statesman and consisted of several other government supers as well as conventional forces. The invasion was short lived as the people of San Christobal did not welcome the U.S. troops with open arms but actively resisted to every man, woman and child. The liberation ended when Statesman and the Sovereign clashed in the skies over what had been the Presidential Palace, A battle that was televised the world wide. The great Statesman was knocked unconscious, but not before Statesman gravely wounded the Sovereign severing his Left arm at the elbow. Statesman reappeared several hours later on the floor of Congress, which was in session at the time. He was beaten and bloody, and had a message pin to his chest. The note simply read “Leave My People Alone or Else” and was signed Sovereign. The troops and other supers were simply herded back into the landing craft and planes that they had come on and were sent home otherwise unmolested. The people of San Cristobal live a very basic existence, but there is no crime and there is no unemployment. The people do not enjoy many of the freedoms that the first world enjoys, but by all accounts they are happy. This has not stopped several super teams from confronting Sovereign during his infrequent trips away from his kingdom to attend diplomatic functions.
The Sovereign has never been seen by the outside world outside his black and crimson power armour, and it is postulated that his left arm is now a cybernetic replacement. One popular theory is that The Sovereign is not one man at all but rather several men all ruling under the guise of this infamous super villain.
Recently it is rumored that The Sovereign has taken a more expansionist attitude and has sent subversive elements into several South American countries, and Cuba to prepare the way for their inclusion into the realm of the SOVEREIGN.
