AM Stations
WCTY ("The Wild Country) 102.7 FM, Country
Morning Show Hosts: Lester & Kathy
Drive Home: Max MacArthur
WTLK ("W-Talk") 105.1 FM Talk Radio
All Talk Radio format with extensive news coverage and political commentary.
Most popular show: Jack Powers' Listener Call-In show running from 7:00pm to 10:00pm. Each night Jack picks a hot topic from the day's headlines and opens the phone lines to give the everyday citizen a chance to air their views.
Jack has often been criticized by local government for inciting public opinion one way or the other depending on the sensationalism of the moment. Jack responds by criticizing local government for suggesting that the people can't make up their own minds.
Needless to say, Jack tends to steer his viewer discussions towards a critical assessment of local government whenever possible.
But this isn't out of some petty vindictive streak. Jack merely gives his viewers what they want. No matter who is in political power at the moment, the average man in the street always feels shafted and Jack merely provides them a vehicle by which to express their opinions.
Their second-most-popular broadcast is Reverand Thorndyke's "Service For Shut-Ins" program which runs from 9:00am to noon on Sunday mornings. Reverand Thorndyke's down-to-earth and often pragmatic stance on the moral and ethical issues of our times seems to touch a resonant chord within the hearts and minds of the citizens of Vanguard City.
Although his target audience is Vanguard City's Christian listeners (regardless of denomination) Reverend Thorndyke tends to keep his services light on religious dogma and open to listeners of all faiths. Reverend Thorndyke also frequently violates the station's "all-talk" format by interspersing the major topics of his sermons with gospel choir music and "uplifting songs of faith". Since Rev. Thorndyke's show has a 40 share on the Sunday morning time slot, the station manager tends to turn a blind eye to the music in Reverand Thorndyke's show.
